Privacy notice
How Boldtive handles personal data, both from this website and from fieldwork.
This text is pending legal review.
The headings below are the ones this notice will cover and the summaries describe our actual practice, but the wording has not been settled with a lawyer and should not yet be relied on as a legal document. Burundi's Law 1/03 of 10 March 2026 on the protection of personal data governs this area and is in force.
Who we are and how to reach us
Boldtive collects and verifies field data. For any question about personal data, including a request to see, correct or delete what we hold, write to [email protected].
What personal data we collect
Two separate things. From visitors to this site and people who contact us: the details you type into the enquiry form. From fieldwork: information about the people a study is about, which varies by study and is set out in the consent given at the point of collection.
Consent
Fieldwork personal data is collected on the basis of consent given by the person before collection, in a language they speak, with an explanation of what the data will be used for and who will see it. Consent can be withdrawn.
Purpose and use
Enquiry details are used to reply to the enquiry. Fieldwork data is used for the study it was collected for and for the delivery of that study to the client who commissioned it. Data is not sold.
What we publish and what we withhold
Data delivered through the API and our other products never includes a person's name, phone number or exact coordinates. Location is given at administrative-area level with an approximate point. There is one exception. A cooperative's plot locations can be delivered, with the cooperative's consent, to a buyer who needs them to show where a crop was grown. Those files identify each plot by a code and never include a farmer's name or phone number.
Retention
Each record type carries a retention period. Records are retired from the live dataset when they expire, and the retention schedule for a given study is agreed before fieldwork begins.
Sharing and transfers
Who receives data from a study, and where that data is stored and processed, is set out per engagement.
Your rights
Access, correction, deletion, withdrawal of consent, objection, and complaint to the supervisory authority.
Security
Access to raw collection data is restricted to named staff. Photographs and media are held in private storage. Every verification decision is logged against the person who made it.
